Matthew Hunt began his musical education as a chorister
at Lichfield Cathedral. He later studied at the Guildhall
School in London, and in Paris with Pascal Moraguès.
Now much in demand as a soloist and chamber musician,
Matthew has performed at venues around Britain and abroad,
including the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall and St. John’s,
Smith Square in London, the Spoleto festival, the Cité
des Arts and the British Embassy in Paris, the Auditorio
Nacional in Madrid, the Centre for Performing Arts in
Bombay, and has been invited to participate at music
festivals in the USA, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, France
and Switzerland. He has broadcast and made recordings
for Radio 3, Radio France, Swedish Radio, Decca and
Canal+, and recorded the solo clarinet part for the
film ‘Love Actually’. Matthew has appeared
with the Belcea and Accorda Quartets, and the Kungsbacka
Trio. He is a member of the Ulysses and Olivier Ensembles
and a regular participant at the IMS Prussia Cove ‘Open
Chamber Music’ and Wye Valley Chamber Music festivals.
As an orchestral musician, Matthew has appeared with
the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Claudio Abbado’s
Lucerne Festival Orchestra and as Guest Principal Clarinettist
with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Scottish
Chamber Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and
the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Future plans include appearances in London at Wigmore
Hall, at the Aldeburgh Festival, in Lucerne and Berne
in Switzerland, at the Charlottesville Festival in the
USA and with the Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto.
