About the Organization

The Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival is presented by the Virginia Chamber Music Foundation.

The Virginia Chamber Music Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in the summer of 2000 by cellist Raphael Bell and violinist Timothy Summers to further the presentation and understanding of chamber music in Virginia.

Since the inaugural season of the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival in the fall of 2000, the foundation has presented well over 100 concerts and school programs in the Charlottesville area.

The Foundation will present concerts not only at the festival in September, but occasionally throughout the year, with emphasis on the continual development of musical styles through commissions, teaching, cooperation with local arts organizations, and improvisation. The Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival will continue to be the centerpiece for the foundation, bringing artists from all over the world. However, in order to further foster the development of musical knowledge for guest musicians and the broader community alike, the Foundation will be presenting concerts which will specifically serve as a means to explore the relationships between new and old music, along with new and old media.
